Margaréta Lakner was born in Hungary in 2000 and grew up in the Hungarian countryside. At the age of nine, she began taking guitar lessons in her local community, an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for the instrument. Her first teacher, the accordionist Tibor Kollár, played a pivotal role in inspiring her to pursue the guitar.
At the age of fourteen, driven by a deep commitment to music, she moved to Szeged to attend the SZTE Vántus István Secondary School of Music. There, she studied with Andrea Bozóki and Dávid Pavlovits, graduating in 2018.
In recognition of her musical achievements, she was awarded the Vántus Prize in 2019 and received a four-year scholarship from the Eötvös Music Foundation in Hungary.
At the age of nineteen, after a period of profound uncertainty that challenged both her artistic aspirations and her sense of direction, she moved to Dresden, Germany, to study Acoustic Guitar at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music. Immersed in the university's diverse and inspiring artistic environment, she expanded her musical horizons and began exploring her own compositional voice. Throughout her studies, she has been mentored by distinguished musicians including Thomas Fellow, Stephan Bormann, Jule Malischke, Nora Buschmann, Daniel Wirtz, and Petr Saidl, whose diverse artistic perspectives have profoundly shaped her artistic development. This period of creative exploration has resulted in a steadily growing repertoire of original compositions.
During these formative years, she regularly participated in national and international festivals and attended masterclasses with some of the world's leading classical guitarists, such as Reentko Dirks, Sönke Meinen, Paolo Pegoraro, Anders Miolin, Mak Grgic, Margarita Escarpa, and many others.
In 2024, she received the Audience Award at the 6th European Guitar Award and won the composition competition of the Hanse Guitar Cup in Hamburg. Her award-winning composition Zenosyne has been published by Acoustic Music Books Verlag.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Pedagogy in 2024 and is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Artistic Performance at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden.
Alongside her solo career, Margaréta is an active chamber musician and performs with the Aeres Guitar Quartet.
She has been teaching guitar for over six years, working with beginner and intermediate students. She considers teaching to be an essential part of her artistic life, finding the same sense of purpose in helping others discover music as she does in performing and composing.
